In 2008, the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) commenced in Australian schools. The program continues in 2016 with all children in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 or ages appropriate to these years being assessed using common national tests in Reading, Writing, Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy. NAPLAN 2016 assessments will be paper-based as in previous years.
These literacy and numeracy tests form a key part of the National Assessment Program endorsed by all Australian Ministers for Education. The tests have been developed in accordance with the provisions of the Schools Assistance (Learning Together – Achievement through Choice and Opportunity) Act 2004 and supporting regulations.
All children are strongly encouraged to participate. Parent reports on student progress (issued in August and distributed to parents through THEAC. THEAC neither looks at nor retains copies of these results.) will give valuable information on your child’s/children’s performance in the areas tested. Sample parent reports, NAPLAN test papers and other information available from www.naplan.edu.au
Children undertaking tests in the home environment will receive the test booklets from THEAC in the week beginning Monday, 16 May 2016. All tests should be sent to the address provided with the test materials by Friday, 20 May 2016.
If you would like your child/ren to participate please complete the enclosed registration form as soon as possible, but no later than Friday 8, April 2016 and return to:
